Default 4l80e slow 2-3 shift

I recently rebuilt a 4l80e and seems to be working correctly except for the 2-3 shift is slow. It doesnt flare, just takes a second or to engage.

Its got an hd-2 kit fully installed and used a transtec rebuild kit. Its home is a stock express 3500.

im just looking for some direction on where to look for issues. New to transmissions, and i dont know what i dont know.

Thanks,
John

It probably just needs to be tuned. I had a 4L80e rebuilt with the HD-2 kit. It felt like I was getting rear-ended when it shifted at first. I told my tuner to soften it up a lot. Now, it shifts smooth, but doesn't hesitate.

You may have a leak on the direct circuit. I would check the pressures and see if it drops when going into 3rd.

We had issues years ago with the TransGo kits having a delayed shift so I developed our own recalibration kit to alleviate the slow shifts.

Thanks, unfortunately I already have the unit out and apart on the Bench. Didn’t pressure test it. I did take apart the direct drum and inspect the seals, they look and air check okay. The sealing rings look good too.

ill put new gaskets in the vb and pump and put it back in for testing. I’ll have to pressure check it then.

ill get my next recalibration kit from you guys. I have a triple disc converter from jakes in my LS turbo mustang and I love it.

Thanks for the reply. At least I have a direction to follow.
