What do you guys suggest, what do you run now? My combo is a cam motion 226/230 114+3, trick flow heads, tbss intake and long tubes in a 69 short bed F100 (3600 lbs). Rear end will have 4.10’s (29” tall tire). It’s still in the project phase so I’m buying parts as I go. It’ll be just an occasional weekend cruiser that I take to the track a couple times a year. I’m thinking a 34-3600 stall.
Choosing a converter is like choosing a cam. Everybody has their opinion on what's "street" and what's "race". Some people can tolerate more as a "street car" than others.
Some will tell you their 4k stall drives like a dream in city traffic...others will tell you their 2800 stall is a little doggy off the line. It all depends on what you're really trying to do, and what you're ok with calling streetable. Anythnig in the 3000-4000 stall range should work fine with that cam. Lower end being more street friendly, upper end being more speed and track friendly.
If it's a nice tight converter like Yank, anything in the 3000 to 4000 range will probably drive pretty good. My 72 vette has a Yank 3200 for the TH400 and the car drives almost like stock around town.

Someone offered a used PTC single disc w/ lockup from a turbo car. Are turbo converters and N/As built differently or should I get one specifically for my mild N/A build.
4k stall is great for a weekend toy. Circle D, FTI and PTC are great choices. Have used all three.
yes, the stator is probably different for the converter spec'd for a turbo car. you'll also make significantly less power than the previous combo did and it won't flash as high.
I have a 3600 Yank currently. On a N/A setup, I like a larger converter. My 3600 is a little small/tight IMO for my setup. I am changing to a turbo setup, so the 4L65E and Yank will be out and the 80E PTC 3000 will be in.
