I have seen them used , I am not a big fan , To me that spot under the car between the exhaust is about as hot as you can get,
Personally I would invest in a plain good deep pan that uses a deep filter and a bigger cooler or a fan for your cooler instead ,

I have twice on the car, no issues, they seal fine and add about 4 quarts in capacity. They have sending unit bungs for temp gauges also which is a bonus.
