Default No third gear

I am having an on going issue. It doesn't really seem like the 3-4 clutches like normal. My first issue was it will get stuck in second gear until I go back to neutral and then back to first.. now it won't shift to third at all. There is no slipping it just pretty much feels like second gear. It doesn't feel like third is neutral like it usually would with burnt clutches. Could this be my vss causing the issue? Its a 4l60e in my c5.

Not if your speedometer is working.

Could be the tps, but you should throw a scanner on it before you throw parts on it.

yeah gonna have to get my tuner to log it. Already replaced the TPS a while back.. it stopped the launching in second gear issue but now I don't have third.

Ok so at low rpms it goes into third, slips and races open but then catches itself and doesn't slip.. Any ideas? Now I'm starting. To think the. Clutches or some kind of pressure problem

I'm gonna go out on a limb and say you haven't put a pressure gauge on it

So, you've hooked a scanner up to it, and see that its commanding 3rd?
What scanner are you using? Go for a drive and command 3rd if you can...that's pretty simple with HP tuners.

Is this a random issue (as in it's been shifting fine for weeks and now all of a sudden 3rd is gone even though you haven't changed anything) or is this an issue caused by another change? (you put a new tune in it and now it doesnt work...you got a different set of wheels or tires and now it doesnt work, etc)

Answer those questions, then put a darn gauge on it. Lots of issues are much easier to solve with a pressure gauge.

It shifts into third now but slips immediately . It's gonna be the clutches

And ya it started doing it all at once but that's after 200+ passes with 1.5 60fts on a stock 4l60 lol

You didn't hardly answer any of my questions. How do you KNOW it's going into 3rd? is it indicated by a scanner? do you just "feel it" shift then slip?

I understand its had multiple passes, but what was the cause...did it just pop up out of the blue, or were other changes made right at the same time this happened?

Do you have 4th?

Have you commanded it?


If you're sure it's the clutches, then just pull the thing and start tearing it down, not really sure you need anybody's help on here if you already know its the clutches

Dang you have the same attitude in every post I see you comment on. I don't have HPtuners, my tuner is 2 hours away, I know it goes into third because I can FEEL it shift and can MANUALLY shift it into third. it then SLIPS because the rpms climb and it doesnt gain speed. stock 4l60s are lucky to hold stock power at the track and i have been pulling 1.5 60 fts for over 200 passes.. its time was now.. plus I went to a different track than usual with less cool down time and I think letting me trans get a little more hot than usual might have done it. Plus, I run the 1/8th mile. I recently went to a shorter set of tires that bring my third gear shift right before the finish line when previously it happened directly after so I didnt have to go into gear at WOT. Im not going to read the thread anymore because I am sure you will have another smartass response like on every other thread, thanks.

3-4 clutch pack needs to be replaced, just like mine. How many rpms can 3rd hold before it slips? Mine is 2000rpms.
