If I'm spinning to 7500, what would the shift extension be if I'm trying for 600rwhp/520rwtq to the wheel power output? I may need to send it back to be restalled. But I do like how tight it is for driving though. Especially with a very loud exhaust.

Also, sorry to derail this a bit, just was thinking out loud...

Imo it's a perfect street converter. At the track the hard hit would 60ft a little better but probably be harder to hook under 40mph on the street depending on power level and tire selection. Even with the 086 first gear was border line useless with 450 whp on anything less then a 275/50/15 drag radial. I sold the car to a friend who put a 150shot on it and he went to a 275/60/15 555r. The car hooks good NA but gets up on the tires from a 40 roll with the spray.
thank you very much for a the real life experience information!

I have directed many of my customers towards FTI and they have all been happy with their torque converters.
I do not even recall anyone needing to take advantage of the 1st year cut and clean/ restall service.

Years ago when running a super-comp car... I picked up an 8"/ 8.5" converter while in Florida (Deland I believe) that was absolutely amazing!
The tag in an old photo looks like it says: "SS8" torque converter. Did FTI ever go by a different name?
I am almost positive the converter was from FTI (I can't imagine another converter company being in Deland) and it made me quite happy.

Anything that increases speed and consistency in super-comp is both difficult to work into the tune but also absolutely fantastic to have.
So, a big recommendation for FTI from me! You will definitely get what you ask them for!

On another site, a guy with a 9.5 converter, 086 stator, and I think a 3 or 0 impeller, he described more of a rubber band sling shot feel to the acceleration instead of a “hit”. He preferred the “soft hit” because he liked how it pulled hard through the duration of the acceleration and the feel of Multiplication at higher speeds and higher RPM’s. I think thats better for the street and a little strip.

I run the 3200 0082 in a full weight '02 SS, mostly stock, 3.23 gears, it dyno'd 335 hp and 334 ft lbs.

It's not too loose down low and hits good up top. I like it, not sure if you would.

With this converter, 26x8 slicks, headers and full SLP exhaust, SLP lid, my built trans, and some tuning it ran 11.86 @ I forgot.

Cool! Thanks for the info. I have had my share of 082 converters. Never an 086. Im more nervous about the 086 regarding performance, but I'm wanting the drivability. So far, I'm headed in the direction of an all around street strip converter thats better from a roll.
