Default Automatic Transmission Replacement

I have a 1956 Chevy, Bel Air, 4 door base sedan with a two speed automatic transmission that slips in low gear off the mark. Instead of rebuilding, I wish to have a better option installed. I was looking at the TH400 and TH350 and was wondering if those would fit.
Also, I noticed that those offerings indicate that they are both a kit. What does that mean? I want something fully assembled.

What engine? Six cylinder? Early small block? A kit could mean many things. A new driveshaft could be included in the kit. Kick down cable? Some of these transmissions need a cable to control a throttle valve. Without this control or a change to a different valve body in the trans, you could burn up your trans pretty quick. A modern trans will also need cooling in the radiator or an external transmission oil cooler.
