Default Circle d converter spacing

I just recently installed my circle d converter and, with it fully seated, I only have 5/64" (.078125") clearance between it and the flexplate. Is that too close of a clearance? Or will I be fine running it?

Clicks dont mean ****. You need to measure from the bellhousing edge to the converter feet. I agree it seems a little tight, mine tend to end up closer to .20-.25 and i shim them.

To answer your question though, I think most converter companies recommend 1/8" gap minimum, which you exceeded so you should be good.

its an inch from the edge of the bell housing. The factory converter that came out was an inch and sixteenth.

1/8" minimum spacing? I've read where alot of companies including circle d say 1/8" to 3/16" spacing but I'm less than that. However I've also read where mrevit or mredit (I cant remember exactly) was discussing with circle d 1/16 to 3/16" spacing and circle d said he was right. I'm just confused on this whole thing.

Default Circle d converter 5/64 clearance

I got the same issue. Dont know what to do. This is my second one due to it being tight. I dont know what to do. Both of them are 5/64 and they say they want 1/8. The first one took out a thrust bearing being at 5/64. I'm really stressing.

I talked to them and they said it needs to be .1", since we are at 5/64 we only need .022. I'm going to put a piece of sandpaper on each pad and knock it down.

you can also send it back to them to have the pads knocked down more.

thanks bud! Mainly I'm just going to try and knock the paint off and see how it turns out. I know it doesnt sound like the paint will affect it but .022 is less than half the width of a dime. And they said I could try it and see.

well I suppose the next thing to do is to send it back to them. Guess that's just the name of the game. Nothing ever goes as expected.

absolutely, I definitely feel you on that one. It's strange how everyone wants a different spec, circle d wants 1/8 to 3/16, other companies want 1/16 to 3/16, I tried running it with 5/64 and it took out my brand new engines thrust bearing. So not even gonna chance it with the new verter they sent me, that's why I'm having my machinest knock out the pads. Frustrations will eventually lead to success. Cant wait till the day I can comfortably drive my machine I've built

also, it's strange how they wanted you to take it to .100, thats not even an 1/8 ".125" so wth?

well 1/8" is the optimal number. But it has a tolerance of +/- .025. So -.025 leads it to .1" which would safely be the bare minimum .

It's very odd but other companies also want 1/8 to 3/16 also, who knows. And you got that right. I've put a 6.0 l96 and 6l90 into my 87 chevy 4x4. I'm ready to drive it.
