Default No 2-3 shift@WOT 4L60E

I just wanted to post a fix on the 4L60e not shifting at WOT.
2002 Camaro 408 NA motor 3:73 gears.
I pulled my hair out trying to adjust the PCM to get the trans. To shift into 3rd at WOT.
It turns out the derale deep pan I was using was causing aeration in the fluid probably because of the cooler tubes running through the pan. I replaced the pan with a Hughes cast aluminum deep pan and filter kit and the issue was fixed. I got a 2-3 shift at wide open throttle all day long.

I'm betting it wasn't the pan's fault. It was likely a fluid level issue. One that you just happened to solve when changing a new pan.

Regardless, glad you got your issue fixed!

I used the same dipstick and tube at the same level.
I'm not saying the derale is a bad pan. I originally installed it because I heard nothing but good about derale pans. It just didn't work for me.

same filter? First filter not seated properly? New seal with new pan?

I don't see tubes in the bottom of a pan being able to cause aeration

The new filter is deeper into the pan. The derale pan takes a stock filter. I presume because of the tubes It was sucking the pan dry at 6800 rpm. But because of the gap between the filter and the pan, because of the tubes fluid wasn't getting to the filter. The derale pan worked with the stock engine shifting at 6000. I only had the issue after the engine swap. The old filter looked perfect. Nothing in the pan. I left the old filter grommet in the pump with the new filter, so that wasn't the problem. I can only say if others are having an issue not shifting try a true deep pan with a deep filter before overhauling the trans.

I think ya'll are right ! It wasn't the pans fault... using the same tube and stick just gave a "false" reading as the tubes displaced the trans fluid making it appear there was enough fluid in the transmission.

using the same tube and stick gives the same fluid level reading no matter how deep or shallow the pan is. The same reading on the stick with the two different pans shows the deeper pan worked without sucking it dry at high rpm.

I have seen the shallow pan filter installed in a deep pan. They do cause the pump to suck air. It keeps the pick-up hole in the filter in a higher level of the fluid creating a whirlpool effect on the fliud. It's still submerged in the fluid, but the return to the pan flow cant keep up with where the fluid is being pulled from.
So was the fix the correct filter or the actual pan itself.
