Trans temo gauge install on powerglide ?
the pan shows the large aggregate number. Gives you an idea if the whole thing is overheating too quickly. This is the fluid that will directly go to shift valves and apply clutches.
Cooler OUT line is fluid that comes from the converter. This is good to see if you are sitting on the transbrake too long, or if your converter is building more heat than normal.
Cooler IN line is fluid that's coming back from the cooler and it's what gets used for all lube oil. From cooler line in, the oil goes straight to the bushings/bearings and alot of it gets slung to help cool clutches.
Personally, on street cars, I just run the temp sensor in the pan. It gives you the best overall look at what's happening.
On a racecar with something like holley or racepak I'd monitor all 3 along with line pressure.
