Default TH400 dump valve

looking into getting a dump valve, have a built th400, RMVB with 3500 stall, looking to use a dump valve to spool up quicker and also for the tuning aspect of street testing on the car. I am mainly looking for peoples opinions and experiences with them

Is this a street driven vehicle or a track only vehicle?

What torque converter are you using?

How big and what type of transmission cooler?

What trans-brake are you using/ who's valve-body?

What type of forced induction?

How do you manage the forced induction/ boost?

How do you manage the engine?

I am generally not a fan of these... I do not care for the external types at all...
To many customers screw-up learning to use a converter dump and ruin the torque converter and transmission.
IMO there are better ways to aid in building boost pressure...
I have friends that do have some luck with the internal type.

Let me know about your build specs and I'll recommend one.

Nothing wrong with a dump valve. I would dump it to the rear servo cover.

Regardless of the usage of the car...a dump valve really won't cause any issues if it's solenoid controlled and you're not a moron. the cooler circuit will work exactly the same at all time until you energize the solenoid. The not being a moron part is the key

No real problem with a dump valve internal or external. I will parrot Vortec's response and say we need more info on the car to say whether or not it's a good idea for your setup.

LMAO! So then I will simply say that I am NOT a fan of Morons!!!

After all it is not the dump valves fault that the operator is an idiot!

Thank you MaroonMonsta for helping me be less PC... I like it! :-)

Most PC stuff I don't care or have time for

Most builders are wising up and restricting converter charge circuit...and converter builders really have their stuff figured out.
But there is some benefit to dump valves in the right circumstances still.

I am just curios... Do you know of any major builders that do not restrict converter charge pressure?

Every single THM400 we build receives a specially sized brass orifice in the pump... size varies along with power, line pressure, and converter...

All major builders have been doing it for years. I don't know any that don't.

But now most of your smaller guys are starting to do it too.

Drilled set screw
brass orifice
drilled cup plug
etc...I've used them all.

I like the setscrew with a drop of loctite best. Just makes me feel the most secure.
