Default Trans cooler lines

Let me start by saying I do NOT want to get into a discussion of using the stock trans cooler in series vs only external cooler!

With that out of the way, I just want to make sure I've got the right lines hooked up.

Bottom port on trans ---> bottom of external trans cooler ---> top of external trans cooler ---> top port on trans

^^Correct?

It doesn't matter if it's an external air cooled cooler.

Correct. Generally, does not matter at all with one caveat. Hot fluid goes into the cooler from a line and cooler fluid comes out the other line. You don't mention a make or model number of external cooler but it would only matter if your cooler had a one-way check valve in it that would block fluid flow if hooked up wrong.

Mine is a stock 1999 GMC / Chevy external trans cooler without a check valve so the hook up does not matter. What's yours?

Thanks Jay and Rick. I figured it had to be that simple, but then was wondering about fluid causing air bubbles or something if the fluid went from top to bottom.

I run the largest b@m with the fan and thermoswitch remotely

It sounds like you have poor cooler circuit function from what you describe. Not cooling at idle in neutral ect
The glide pump and shaft combo is sensitive to this, what is your combo of pump/shaft/stator tube?

that thermoswitch on mine is 180* I beleive on the inlet if the cooler

It is on the instant I stall the converter under power. I can make a full hit over 1200hp and in 2-5 minutes after cruising the fan has shut back off
I am lucky to ever see over 160 sump temp no matter how hard I .on it or how far I drive

This is with locked stator even in the converter

i run a full ring shaft and have excellent function
