4l80 hd2 2-3 shift help

Default 4l80 hd2 2-3 shift help

Currently I have a low mileage (30k) 2009 4l80e. It hasn’t skipped a beat so far but it has a fairly soft wot 2-3 shift with my ss4000 converter. It already has the separator plate drilled to .125”, max according to install instructions. It also has the inner blue accumulator spring also, for max firmness. The 1-2 shift is very firm.

ive found a few people saying you can leave out the check ball for the 3rd gear shift for max pressure/shift firmness. Now for my main question...

can that check ball be left out with it drilled to .125”, or is that too large and I need to get a new separator plate and start over?

You can leave the checkball out and have it drilled .125. Won't hurt anything.
If 2-3 is soft and the 1-2 is pretty firm, I would first recommend you get an accumulator block off plate and install that, then put the stock accumulator valve spring back in.

This will dramatically firm the 2-3 and soften the 1-2 back up to a more enjoyable level

Thank you! this was the info I was looking for. I will try leaving the check ball out, if that doesnt work I will try the accumulator block off. I'm pretty happy with the 1-2 and the 3-4 so hopefully this works!

Dual feeding the direct clutch the proper way, will provide a huge increase in 2-3 shift firmness.
