Default 4l60e pump, only 1 spring inside of it.. shouldn't there be 2?

rebuilding the pump on a 99 4l60e, isn't the spring suppose to have 2 springs, one inside the other? The pump I'm working on only had the outer spring and not the inner. Is this a problem or do I need to go to a transmission shop and get the inner spring?

thanks

They left the factory with 2.Either someone left it out at the factory or when being serviced,or it has a single super stiff transgo type spring. Is the face diameter of the rings wider than normal? This is how the tgo stuff is.

Buy one of the transgo unbreakable ring kits it comes with both the priming springs and is less than 10 dollars. The upgraded spring is supposed to help pressure at higher rpm.

There are actually 4 different possibilities here.

A.Trans go spring which is gray.
B.Sonnax spring which is purple.
C.The late factory spring which the coil tapers on the ends and is heavier than normal only using one single spring.
D.Or the obvious that someone left the inner spring out.

the spring is black, so that knocks out A and B, the spring is a standard spring so that knocks out C so it must be D lol

I went and bought the trans go kit

someone obviously tried to rebuild this thing without any manuals or experts to supervise. There are a few parts that are missing along with the pump spring

Just looked through the kit and I'm not seeing any spring for the pump. I looked again at the that was already in the pump and it is a dark dark gray. Like it has no aftermarket color, just the steel color

Take a pic of what you have and post it.

it was def. suppose to have 2 springs, I took it to a transmission parts shop and showed them and they knew the color difference of the springs. I installed the hardened pump ring kit with their dual springs so it should be good now. Thanks for all the help

If you are using the TransGo "dual spring" setup then it is a low rpm setup, good to 5,500rpm without the pump losing pressure. The "single spring" setup is for hi rpm, good to 7,800 rpm without the pump losing pressure.

The primary function of the slide is to provide a variable displacement of oil based on transmission demand. This also improves fuel economy.

This is correct however the reason for a heavier spring is not about fuel economy. Are we really worried about fuel economy here? The reason for the spring is so decrease oil pressure on the back side of the slide does not push the slide in the decrease oil pressure direction under WOT. Obviously there are a few things that can effect this as well but a weak spring is just one of them. Vince

It was worth registration here just to tell you THANK YOU, Vince B, for non-prevaricated information.
