Help diagnose this 3rd gear issue
Help diagnose this 3rd gear issue Car is a 98 TA with a 4L60E that was “built” by the PO.
symptoms are
from a dead stop at WOT it will only shift 1-2. It pulls hard all the way to the rev limiter at 6800. Shift is set at 6200.
from cruising speed in 4th it will downshift to 2nd at WOT and will shift to 3rd at 6200
ive had the tune checked and the tuner was satisfied with the tune.
I hate to pull it for a rebuild and have the same issues.

If you are stating that you have to let off the throttle in second gear before the transmission will shift into third gear...
Then you have a 2-3 shift timing issue.
Do you know if the unit has a shift kit and which product it is?
Do you know what the 2-4 band clearance is?
Do you know what the 3-4 clutch pack clearance is?
Do you know if the 3-2 control valve has been blocked in place?
Do you know how the separator plate holes were drilled?
Then you have a 2-3 shift timing issue.
Do you know if the unit has a shift kit and which product it is?
Do you know what the 2-4 band clearance is?
Do you know what the 3-4 clutch pack clearance is?
Do you know if the 3-2 control valve has been blocked in place?
Do you know how the separator plate holes were drilled?

I know nothing about it. It was built before I bought it and the PO knew nothing. He was a car guy.
it shifts fine normal driving. Only issue is WOT you have to let off in 2nd for it to shift to 3rd if starting from a dead stop.
It will down shift to 2nd and then to 3rd if going from a roll.
