4L80E and Torque Converter Fluid
Sorry to ask what seems like a silly question, but I can't seem to locate a definitive answer anywhere. I have an LQ4 motor hooked up to a stock 4L80e trans. I recently pulled the motor and installed a new 2800-3200 stall from Total Transmissions Chicago. I filled this with 1 quart of fluid beforehand. I tried pulling out of the garage and my Nova barely moved. I measured the trans fluid and noticed it was a bit low. I went ahead and topped it off. I was then able to pull out of the garage and drive a few blocks. This converter feels pretty loose at low RPM.
Here's my question..
Does the torque converter on a 4L80e cycle transmission fluid through the converter? If so, how? If not, does this mean the same fluid stays in the converter for the life if the unit?
Should the design be different; with the torque-converter holding a fixed volume of ATF and not ever leave, the ATF in the torque converter would cook/ burn up.
