What do you mean throw him under the bus?
Nobody here is perfect. Is it possible PBA let out a bad part? Sure.
I'd say that his quality is top notch and his info he shares on here is also top notch.
Sounds to me like you have a 2 yr grudge and are trying to make a stink about it. To me the pictures you shared show *some* darkness to the splines, but not what I'm used to seeing. So if I got it, I would also question if it was hardened or not. Leaning towards not.
You can't say "oh it's not a big deal" when he offers to send you a new one 2 years after the fact...then also double post and ask for confirmations that it's not heat treated.
Lets say it's not heat treated...that means that PBA let out a bad part, and 2 years later, without any reciept, ticket, or proof of purchase etc he has offered to send a new one. For all he knows you could be any tom dick or harry looking for a freebie...but he's still offered replacement. How much more right do you want the guy to do? Do you want someone to grovel and say "omg you're right PBA sucks so hard" Cuz it's not going to happen.

Quit crying and move on. Let the grudge go. Get it out of your office and throw it in the scrap bin. Life's too short to let **** like this upset you for years.
Takeaways:
-Might have sent out a bad part
-2 yr grudge
-Replacement offered
-Replacement denied
-everybody needs to move on and not hijack the original thread ANY longer.
@mrvedit I'm sure will be in shortly to moderate and probably close this thread since it's veered way off into left field

how do you like a post more than once? Like 10 times. Because this sums it up perfectly.

it’s hard to say, I’d veer towards no. I want to say I see a little dark but like Maroon said, not what I normally see either. Maybe he made a mistake. Maybe he was busy. Distracted. Had things going on in his life. I don’t know the guy but I know people, and people make mistakes. And he’s trying to make up for it. Holding a grudge for two years over something trivial that you didn’t even seek out correction on, in my opinion is silly and juvenile. He even told you to contact him about the packing. Hey, maybe his cat was marking his territory in your package and he didn’t see it. They guy is trying to make amends with you and you are being difficult about it. Mistakes happen. What matters more is how you try and correct them. He’s trying but you won’t let him. That’s on you.

Yeah this has veered a bit off topic, but everyone has been reasonably polite. And the OP actually went off-topic by bringing up sun shells.
PBA (aka Dana, aka Probuilt) has been a time-generous expert contributor here for 14+ years and all long-time members are going to defend him vigorously.
PBA demonstrated his superb customer service by offering you a replacement part after 2 years! To me that ends the discussion!

Therefore lets now stay on the topics which the OP started. Any other posts will be deleted. I may decide in a few days to delete all unrelated posts (including this one) to keep this as a good information packed thread.
Thank you all.
