My 4l80e in my turbo car developed a pretty bad leak through the dust cover after using the trans brake. It looks like I need to swap the pump bushing and seal for sure. What's your opinion on the material in the pan?

If it's a fresh trans. That looks like some typical shedding...especially if they were the borg or raybestos graphitic clutches

When you install a new bushing, coat the outside of it in green loctite then consider maybe staking it. I generally don't like staking but if this bushing has walked out of the pump body...you may have to.

Also, drill back the return hole size to 1/4"

Trans has probably 8 or 9k on it. I was on the transbrake longer than I should have been

I'll send the converter to Fti for a restall and triple disc conversion. Weather is turning shitty here so I'll probably have the trans refreshed for piece of mind

Agree and if you have a tranny cooler toss it and replace with a new one. I wouldn't chance the cooler with a simple flush.

Don't throw away the cooler. Install a large filter on the return line of the transmission. This will catch anything that comes loose in the cooler or torque converter. If there is a bypass on the oil filter housing that you use here, block it off.

I agree that's an option dependent upon the cost of the transmission cooler. Some coolers are cheaper than than the filter kit in link below but less than coolers like the stacked DeRale coolers that more expensive, but extremely efficient and reliable.

I like as few hose connections as is possible. The kit below adds more connections with potential to leak which I hate.

Long term, however, an external filter as you suggest will keep the transmission oil cleaner by simply changing the filter periodically rather than having to drop the transmission pan to change the internal filter.

https://www.gm-trucks.com/forums/top...on-filter-kit/

For FWIW my transmission pump failed and took out the hub. So I had to return the converter to Yank for replacement and cleaning. I installed a new Derale stacked cooler.

The important thing for the OP to be aware of is to NOT forget to do one or the other as you suggest.

The cooler on the car will be changed out for a better one. I doubt its up to the task of the soon to be increased stall. Possibly adding the filter now also

Transmission cooler plate technology has improved a lot. There are two types of coolers: tube and bar and plate.

IMO the bar and plate are far superior in cooling in the way the fluid travels through the cooler (tech specs). I have tried both and finally settled on a Derale stacked plate cooler.

Tip: Get the mounting brackets. Due to its configuration the mounting brackets make it a lot easier to install. These weren't available when I installed mine.

With a Yank 3450 blower converter and A Performabuilt Level III 4l60e behind Procharged 700 HP, temps rarely get over 165-170 degrees. There's an excellent tapped NPT port on the driver side of the transmission to install a temp sender to measure transmission temps.
