Ok all. So I am thinking of modding the auto shifter in my 98. Let me start by saying, NO, I am NOT keeping that huge boat anchor stock T handle crapper... I will be getting an adapter like this:
And, here is how that is connected:
My question is do you all think if I trim the black cover, and the white shaft inside, will it still function the same with the adapter? I believe the white part is what the adapter connects too so when you push down you can shift. right??? So by trimming these down, say 1 inch er so, will it still function?
You're going to need to trim down the channel where the set screws make contact with the spring loaded shifter rod. It's been forever but maybe these pics will show how much I shaved off:
OH ya... that channel as well. makes sense. Question. The adaptor does not some with a spring, I assume the white shifter rod in the center is spring loaded? You did exactly what I want to do!!! But the **** I am thinking about is another mod as well, however that will be a much later post.

Yes the white rod is spring loaded. You basically take an inch off, and then use a dremel tool to lengthen the channel. It worked well for what it was, but I sold it as you can see, and went with the B&M ratchet shifter. Here's the mod on that: https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...r-install.html
