Default How to Roll race in A4?

Alright, I wanna run my cousin in his 02 Z28 M6, I have an 00 TA A4 w/3.23s. What is the best way and MPH to roll race him. He won't race me from a dig, until I run him from a roll. My mods are in my sig. He has FTRA, Lid, and Borla Catback. Any help so that I don't get totally embarrased would be great.

go from a 65 mph roll....when he hits it...you go wot and you will immediately downshift and should pull hard...

yah a 65 is a good roll but you haveta look out for m6's and there 3rd gear pulls! if you need to go from a low roll i would say 29mph would be the best. you should get a good kik-down from there. but if you had a TC it wouldnt matter where you race from.

Get a torque converter and you'll embarrass him!!

25-29mph is a hard kick down and it will take off quickly.

40 is a major dead spot for stock converters. 30 should stopm him if you pull it down to 1st manually. unless its tuned, the pcm won't usually downshift to 1st above 28 or so. I like 60mph the best.

I agree with some of the above. Low speed: 20-28 mph. Higher speed: 60-65 mph. Thsoe will put you at the top of first and second gear, respectively. Worse spot, 30-4X mph at the very bottom of second. Tell him to race from a dig first! REAL drag racing is from a dead stop. Someone once told me "John Force doesn't race from a roll". I don't like races from a roll anyway, it is much more difficult to get both people to take off at the same time than from a dig with a signal person/light.

yep real drag racing is from a dig. Well I used to powershift it/manually move it till I hit the revlimiter a few times and noticed no matter what I did the car would shift at the red line anyway. Quick story stopped at light with friends 02 bullit bonestock both of us and I manually move it to first we take off normally so I move it to 2nd and he floors it as well do I and he annihilated me because it could not downshift since I manually had it in 2nd. 25mph and leave it in 3rd.

Some of the mph suggestions might change with different rearend gears, and tire diameters, so what I do, is make sure that my C5 is in 3rd with the tach @ 1900-2000rpm. Allways downshifts perfectly there for me! I've wiped out more than a few this way. For me, that is 40mph at a roll, or 60-65mph hwy. I have a 3200 Vig and 3:73's in the 'Vette.

I have a 2000 SS Camaro A4, factory stall, and although it has 3:73's too, I still keep the tach @ 1900-2000 in 3rd, and it screams when I hammer it! This usually happens for me at 35mph roll, or 60mph hwy. The main difference between my two cars, other than the TC, is a slight difference in tire diameter, which causes about a 4mph variance.

Good luck! Make sure there's not any heavy traffic in the area when this takes place!

from 35mph downstift to first or anything lower. from 71 downshift to 2nd or anything lower to 40mph
dont roll from a 40-48 dead spot you'll loose..

wouldn't suggest racing an 01 or 02 six speed from a roll where the automatics advantage is from a sitting stop six speed cars from a roll are hard to out run just look at the trap speeds have friends with airlid only cars that trap 111+

racing from a roll against an m6 with a stock TC sucks no matter where you race from.of course thats if both cars are stock or comparably modded.

i was running solid high 12 1/4s with a stock TC and my car was still sluggish from a roll.

i agree.... will DESTROY a bolt on M6 at the track but from a roll i can just about run door to door with one.

Does it harm anything to drive all of the time (except on the interstate above 70mph) in 3rd gear? My A4 pulls so much harder from a roll in 3rd. Any thoughts?

You will decrease your gas mileage and increase your engine's wear. The only thing that affects how hard it pulls is which gear the car shifts too. It should really pull just as hard in OD as D so long as it downshifts to the same gear (which it should, given equal conditions)....the major diff is that if you are in third gear (forced through holding in D) instead of fourth gera (cruising in OD) it will not have to shift as many gears and will hit the gear it wants (probably second) sooner. Just put it in OD and call it good unless you are about to get on it....then you can shift to D if you like but I really don't see the need.

i would say 15-20 lower speeds and 60-65 upper speeds. 30-40 or so is really bad. i have an a4 Z with 273s. my buddy has a mustang and it is a 5spd. he can not get me off the line and if we go at 15 or so, he can not go back to 1st.
