Default 97-02 C5 Vette Tranny

Hey guys im looking into a replacement tranny for my 98 formula and was wondering if I would have any problems fitting a C5 4l60e or possibly a 4l65E into my bird. I figured i would have problems because of the vette's design but I need to find a stock tranny and I have tried all the places I can think to find them and no luck. These things are touch to find, and ebay has been useless so far. I can find them out of a caprice all day long but I would rather get one out of a bird or camaro that way I know it will work properly. Also will any 93-02 tranny work? I thought the 93-97 models had different gear ratios in them than the 98-02's perhaps im wrong? Anyways could use some help here guys my tranny is getting bad.

I'm thinking the 93-97s may have had some differences (electronics perhaps.)

I'm sure you realize that the C5 has a transaxle setup.

The gear ratios are the same for all years across all models.

I would have your present tranny rebuilt. Find an experienced builder.

If you have a '98, then you must find a '98 or later w/ 300mm Torque Converter. Your transmission has a 2-piece case (removable bellhousing), LS1 (GenIII) specific bellhousing and a longer stator shaft (for use with 300mm converter).

C5 transmissions won't work and a truck transmission will require swapping of the extension housing and won't be optimized for your car.
