Default need th400 help

Hi,
My tranny is leaking really bad, I got up underthere and found it is a bolt hole its comming out of the bolt wont go in and tighten.

so here my question, can I run a tap up through there and make the threads nice again, or do I need to make a larger size hole and do it that way?

also does anyone know what size those bolts are and the thread pitch so i can buy a tap and try it, i put the bolt back in like a dumbass so i dont want to get all dirty and then have to go to the store
thanks
alot

Depends which bolt, most bolts on a TH350/400 are 5/16-18 (think its 18 pitch, whatever 5/16 coarse thread is). Its pretty common to pull threads out after a few rebuilds. Depending where its at sometimes you can just use a little longer bolt to grab a few more good threads, some pan bolts are threaded all the way through so in a pinch you can stick a nut on top and when its apart you can helicoil the stripped holes..
