UPDATE.

New VSS installed and now speedo is off. Cruise works though.

When speedo says 14, gps says 20mph.
When speedo says 30, gps says 45. Whats going on here?

Bought the new VSS at Napa. AZ and Oreillys and dealerships dont stock the part. Frustrated. Ideas?

Default 700r4 vss VS 4L60 non E vss

I have a 93 TA with the 4L60. Speedo and CC didnt work. The VSS was bad. I installed a napa unit now my speedo is reading slow. 15mph is really 24, 25 is closer to 40. I also installed a new pigtail just in case.

Napa sold me one for a 92. But crossreferenced it supposed to work with a 93. Could the voltage or signals be different enough to give have speedo strength?

ALSO, this may or may not be worth noting. But the drive and driven gears are both tan/yellow0 colored. Factory 3.23 rear and speedo worked great before. Anyone know which colored gears i should have?

Note: This was a new post which I merged into this existing one. Hopefully someone has advise. (Moderator)

F14D: I understand that you are frustrated that no one has the solutions to your problems, but starting a new thread does nothing but annoy the very experts who might be able to help you. Therefore, I merged your new thread into this one. Not to be an a-hole, but this forum is LS1Tech, meaning it starts with cars from 1998.

Now for a suggestion, please post pictures of the VSS that you installed. As I learned from Tayto your VSS might be an electro-mechanical unit which converts a rotating gear into electrical pulses. If this is indeed what you have, then perhaps there are different models with different rotation to pulse ratios. Please be patient and perhaps consider posting on a forum which better covers your '93.

i'm thinking your builder put a different/wrong drive gear on the output shaft. post what size tires and rear gear ratio you are running and we can calculate what gears you'll need

The subtitle of the automatic transmisson section reads: "2-Speed thru 10-Speed GM Autos | Converters | Shift Kits"

Tayto, what do you think? Looks to me i might have the 17 tooth red and 42 green or 45 light blue? I didnt count its teeth regretably but spacing and color suggest. My homework found my 700r4 3.23 245/50r16 should have 38 blue and 15 grey or keep the red 17 and buy 43 purple..info is from TGO

Chipping. Niiiiice. Please disregard the tan yellow comment in the new topic. Clearly I was wrong there and want to admit when I'm wrong.

Looks like your driven gear has seen better days. I would pick the combo that will read the most accurate. changing the drive gear isn't that hard of a job, just make sure you put the clip in the right hole, there are 2 to choose from. Your calculations look correct, I would see what' available. You might have a harder time finding the speedo gears with a metal shaft as they are different than the "regular" all plastic all mechanical speedometer gears. Try Teal Automotive in Indiana for parts. I used them the last time I recalibrated a 700R4.

Funny you noticed that. I put 4 band clamps around the crappy rubber trans mount. It helps prolong its torture.
