Default Disptick Calibration

Hi Guys

This might sound silly, but the question is about the oem full mark vs the new pan gasket level full mark.

The new mark at the pan gasket should be full on vehicle running or shut down?

Its full right now on gasket level when car is running in P and everything is fine.
when i shutdown the vehicle, the level rises so high... so i want to double check everything is fine 😅

The Full mark should be at the pan gasket, and with the engine running, it should read Full once warmed up.
Yes, the level will rise when the engine is off as the fluid in the torque converter drains back into the trans. Hence when someone wants to check the trans level with the engine off, e.g. when filling an empty trans, I say it should be about 1" above the Full line.

This is critical for anyone with any dipstick ever

My personal f body was over a qt off
Have seen multiple customer 3/4 trucks with 4l80e's that are off by multiple quarts.
If you care about a fresh build...check it

Didn't Vorteciroc say that the optimal level is about 1/8" ABOVE the pan gasket?

some have said 1/8", others 1/4”. i had done a shift kit in a friends Cherokee last summer. i was visiting him a few weekends ago and wanted to play around with shifthole size. verified full mark was even with case, but high rpm in 2nd gear I heard pump whine. filled it 1/8-3/16" over and pump whine went away. granted this is not a GM transmission but i think if you're in the range mentioned above you'll be safe.
