Default 97 4l60e work in '00 z28?

Hey, everyone. Please don't kill me if this goes somewhere else I'm pretty new to forums. I have a 2000 Z28 camaro with the 5.7l LS1 motor and I bought it with no trans. I immediately began looking for a 4l60e transmission (duh! &#128514 but oh wait there's more than one 4l60e and they aren't all interchangeable and I've purchased a rebuilt 1-piece case 4l60e that from what I was told came out of a '97 camaro. I'm pretty strapped for funds right now and the nice gentleman refused my request for a refund... 🙄 so can I make this trans work in my car? I've searched the internet high and low and I think I understand that maybe you can do it but I can't find a clear answer anywhere to my exact problem. The bell housing of this trans has an angle cut out of it at the bottom like a 45 degree angle and the correct trans is just bolted flush all the way around. I've been told there a "dust cover" you can buy to fill that gap at the bottom of the bellhousing. Next there's the tailshaft housing. On the correct trans for my car there are lateral bolt holes to bolt to the torque arm going down the middle of the car and this trans doesn't have those. Can I buy just a tailshaft housing or do I have to also swap output shafts? I have a torque converter for the trans I have but my flex plate is from the correct 4l60e cause it came on the car. Last question I promise 😬: do I need some kind of adapter to go between the flex plate and my torque converter? If so please for the love of God tell me what it is cause I've been working on this car for the last year and a half and if I can get a trans in it I can finally drive the God forsaken thing and I'm seriously broke after buying parts for it to get it to this point. Any help is so very appreciated 🙏 I just really wanna drive this car lol

You will need to swap the tail housing so you torque arm will mount back up, and get the little adapter that goes between the engine crankshaft and slides into the torque converter hub.

Dont worry about the angle cut at the bottom of the trans you dont need the "dust shield" unless you have kittens running around....

Im not sure on the wiring of the trans internally, I think there the same but I would make for sure before installing it unless you need to swap something around, hopefully someone more savvy in that department will reply.

If that trans came out of a 97 camaro it would have the provisions for a torque arm to bolt to the tail housing. I'm not sure if electrically the 97 electronics will work with the 2000 PCM, you will need to research that.

The electronics will work. Electronics changed in 96 with the OBD2. But the fitment is still old school. So you will need the flexplate and hub adapter and the other adapter mentioned in post #2.

So to make sure I understand this item here plus a tailshaft is all I need to make it work?

Unless the input shaft was swapped to an LS style piece, it won't work. The LT1 and V6 shafts are different.

OK, to be clear. The trans is from a V8 camaro, correct? A V6 trans won't work at all. But if it's a V8 4l60e. it will work with the correct flexplate and center adapter.
As for the adapter for the torque arm, I am unfamiliar with. I never had to adapt that. So you'll have to take LS7colorados word on that.

I get my flexplate and hub adapter from Speedway. The flexplate is SFI rated and thicker than stock. The hub adapter is a nice piece as well.
Can't send you a PM for the link. If I post it on here it'll probably get deleted since Speedway isn't a sponsor.

I've got the replacement flex plate on and I've installed the spacer but it was really late so I stopped for the night. All I should have to do now is get the trans leveled out on the jack and then bolt it. Everything as far as mating the motor and trans seems to be OK. As far as the torque arm mount goes I plan to use the stock cross member to fabricate a bracket onto it similar to a torque arm relocation kit. I'm just gonna take some flat steel and weld it onto the cross member and bolt the torque arm to it using its bushing. Really just a bandaid solution as I plan on replacing it with an actual torque arm relocation kit and adjustable torque arm as soon as possible

Just to be clear, your '97 4L60E is an "LT" style and will only work with an "LT" style converter. (I think an LS style converter will slip on but definitely will not work.)
So, are you using the converter that came with the '97 trans or something compatible?
Your question about the adapter is answered in post #1 of this sticky: https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...s-spacers.html
Good that you have a new flexplate but you probably did not need it as the existing one could have been drilled out to work. (Even elongating the 3 mounting holes is generally enough.)
As SAPPER stated, all 4L60E/4L65E from 1996 (first year of PWM) through 2005 (last year before ISS came out) are electrically compatible. And up through 2008 (some 2009?) will work with a 1998-2004 PCM.
