4l60e first gear issues

4l60e first gear issues I have a 1994 T/A GT with a 4l60e that slips in first gear, this usually only happens after the car gets warm/hot (I’m located in Texas and it is brutally hot atm) when I pull into traffic softly and it goes into first it’s no issue but when I give the car some as and downshift into first it has an ungodly rattle and grind for a few moments that travels up the gear stick then it grabs. I’m wondering if this has to do with how hot it is and the fluid pressure or something else. Any ideas? The car as 45k miles

1st gear problems are relatively rare on the 4L60E. I don't fully understand your description...
Q - If from a stop you give a lot of gas does it rattle and grind? Or is it only when you are moving and force a downshift into 1st?
Once you answer that, perhaps one of the experts here will have a likely cause. They might ask you to remove the pan to look for metal debris.
Despite the low miles, this was a very weak version of the 4L60E and may already need a rebuild, especially if the engine was enhanced.. If so, I would recommend a rebuild and not a replacement as the '94 is an odd-ball year and other years won't work without at least some modifications for electrical compatibility.

Sounds as if the low roll clutch is not holding at times. If Op would answer my question in his other post it would help nail down his problem. "What does it do if you manually pull the shift lever into low/1st? Does it still slip?"
