Default 4l80e center support won’t seat correctly

So I need help rebuilding a 4L80E right now. I’m trying to do endplay adjustments however I cannot get my center support to sit correctly. The center support snap ring won’t seat all the way and when I force the ring to seat all the way, the output shaft won’t spin.
I rollerized the rear along with the no walk bushing.
I also have the thin snap ring that the center support sits on.
Any thoughts on this or advice would help me out a ton. Thanks

Make sure the 3 snap rings are installed in the correct locations. The thinner "fret" snap ring rests under the center support, the beveled snap ring goes on top of the center support beveled side facing up, and the HD 727 0.106" snap ring (use this, not a stock 4L80E flimsy snap ring) goes on top of the intermediate pressure plate. Rotate the output shaft once the center support is installed to get the center support to seat correctly. The 3 holes of the cs line up with the 3 holes in the case. If you still can't get the snap ring on top of the cs to line up, make sure the stack is correct and the bushings are installed straight. Common issues are the bushing inside the output shaft isn't pressed in all the way, or the bearing that rests on top of that output shaft bushing isn't in the correct orientation causing the center support to sit up too high, not allowing the snap ring to install correctly. Make sure the bushing in the case doesn't protrude past the bearing that you used to rollerize it. Stick just the output shaft into the case and bang it with a rubber mallet in a star pattern to straighten out the case bushing. One of these should be the issue. If not we can dig further. If one of these solves the issue, please respond back with what the issue was.

I did everything you advised and after taking everything apart I realized the dumb mistake I made. I’m currently building a 97 4l80e but I had a 2003 4l80e as a donor for some hard parts. Somehow I placed the 0.041 shim that is only for 99+ (correct me if I’m wrong), underneath the 3 piece bearing that is underneath the sun gear.

I was able to get a clearance of 0.014.

The last question I have is wether or not I can interchange the 2003 intermediate sun gear shaft with the one from 97? Thanks

If you are mixing and matching parts from various years, that's a whole different ball game. I had not accounted for that in your original post but yes, the .041" shim was added in 1999 and that would certainly explain the snap ring fitment issue.

The long splines on the 3rd design sun gear shaft (99+) are approximately .040” longer than 2nd design. (97-98)

You can't swap just the sun gear shafts between the two years (97 and 2003)

Suggest reading this document very carefully which goes into details on some of the differences and what can be swapped with what: https://www.transgo.org/demo/06-45-4...be-Changes.pdf

I would take a quick read through an ATSG Manual...
Or at least the Article in the Link below:
