Default First time with auto transmission

Done a few ls swaps with standard transmission and a friend dropped off a truck with a ls swap that someone else started and I am elected to finish it. There is no harness hooked up to the 4l60 and the guy is saying that it doesn't need any. Is it possible to delete enough codes to do that? There would be no neutral safety or anything.

As far as I know if you have 4L60E (above you state 4L60) it has to be connected to the ECM. Otherwise it won't shift correctly. A 4L60E needs supply a VSS signal to the ECM. It may move forward and backwards. On my LS swaps I didn't use the 4L60E NSS. I've bought auto shifters that had a NSS built in.
Might be best if you ask the same question in the auto trans section.

Yes, that's what I understand as well. Transmission is electronically controlled by the ECU. Shift solenoids, PWM solenoid, force motor, pressure switch, speed sensor(s)...all that stuff is controlled by the ECU. Otherwise the ECU will think the transmission is "dead" and will throw a bunch of codes and vehicle won't drive.

There's aftermarket standalone transmission controllers, but I don't think that's what you are asking?

Is the transmission a 4L60 or a 4L60E, there is a big difference between the two as to what wiring is needed?

ah ha it is a 4l60e and I got a better look at it this morning. I see that the only wiring missing is on shifting positions. Driver's side. The guy that sold it to my friend is telling him that that part is not needed. It still seems to me that it would be. I don't think either one of them knows what they're doing. I'm not sure what I'm doing that's why I was asking you guys. I would like to get it done the right way and I will keep researching and I sure do appreciate all the help thanks

I bet they are giving you a 4L60E from a truck or SUV which has the electronic PRNDL switch that has neutral safety built into the switch. That said, no you dont need this switch to perform a swap. All you need is the round connector on the passenger side and VSS.

A truck/SUV shift shaft is longer compared to a car shift shaft. The cars didnt use the PRNDL switch but had neutral safety switch at the shifter in the console.

The F-Body cars did use a PRNDL switch, it is mounted to the console shifter. You may be able to find what you need on this site. www.lt1swap.com. If you don't use the switch on the side, you may have the jumper the neutral switch and you will not have back-up lights. Also, the ECM will not speed up idle when placed into gear.
