99 Camaro 4l60e question please help
Ok as some may know my 4l60e on my 99 Camaro died on me almost 2 years ago.. I haven’t done anything since. I came across a good deal on another 4l60e a few days ago. It came off of a Chevy pick up truck 4x4. Now I know typically I’d have to gut gut both transmissions to swap the output shaft from my original 2wd 4l60e to the new/used 4l60e that was used in a 4x4. Problem is I’ve never gutted a transmission before and that’s too big of a project for me. So I guess what I’m asking, is there an adaptor or extension I can add that will mate to the shorter output shaft from the tail end in order for me to be able to use it in my Camaro without gutting and swapping the output shafts? If so, can someone point me in the direction to find such a thing? Please and thank you, I appreciate any help
Short answer is NO, there is not a kit to turn a 4x4 into a 2wd.
If you have to tear anything down, I would just do the original transmission. Maybe tear down the new one to get some decent hard parts if needed. Bottom line is: if you open the 4x4 unit to swap stuff your going to find damaged parts.
If you want to take the risk & work with blinders on, you can just change the output shaft & extension housing. Go after the parts from the 2wd drive, that way all you have to do is install the two items.
I just don't recommend a patch job. They always have to be done a second time. It's a lot of work to get the transmission out and back in...

Yeah, a patch job is unlikely to work and any reputable trans shop will tell you it needs a complete rebuild.
For example, you would almost certainly need to replace the teflon rings on the input shaft. And if you have the input shaft out, you are only one snap ring away from replacing the likely worn 3/4 clutch. And so on and so on.
First choice would be a 2WD 4L60E/4L65E from years 2003 to 2008 as these have the hardened sun shell and a few other upgrades. (Maybe hardened sun shell came out in 2002).
Second/last choice would be a 2WD from years 2008 to 2002. Make sure the bell housing has a bolt hole in the 12 O-Clock position to indicate its a 300mm input shaft.
