4l60e 1000 horsepower what mods are done to help it survive
IMHO, it will cost you $4000+ plus a recent year and good condition 4L60E/4L70E to build it for 1000 HP. Plus you will have to learn every "secret sauce trick" that is needed. Yes, if you read thousands of threads you, you can learn many of those tricks, but many require practice and/or special machining.
That is why everyone is saying to just install a 4L80E. A JY 4L80E with maybe $1000 in rebuild and upgrade parts plus a few well documented "mods" will get you reliably well past 1000HP for only 60 lbs more weight. (Do not compare "official" weights because they include the stock converter which is a ridiculous 70 lbs or so.

thank you
I have to assume that would be a Manual Valve-Body (I love the Trans. Brake).
Glad to see some great progress here!

I also have been applying 3rd-Gear the same way as you are but with a Stock-Valve-Body, Plate, and Pump that have all been modified to apply the RI Clutch.
But the Automatic shift timing to 4th-Gear has been a mess that has been driving me crazy.
I got a second Trans. Run-Stand, just so i could keep my test 4L60E on a Run-Stand until I work out the Auto Shifts.

do you have any hints on how you are doing this like what you and Maroonmonsterls1 did in this thread https://ls1tech.com/forums/automatic...3-2-1-a-3.html thank you for your help and this sounds like a good mod and I would like to hear more of how this works and thanks to both of you for the overrun clutch mod and all the information you have shared over the years I have found so many great pieces of information in the posts you have made over the years.

While I have found a few methods of doing this Modification, while experimenting in my Shop...
I DID NOT CREATE OR DESIGN THIS MODIFICATION.
MaroonMonster and Jake's Performance have Credit due on this Modification.
So I will not be discussing anything that I feel I do NOT have the Rights to do so.
Jake and I first started discussing this 5 whole years ago
We've both done some on and off testing in the meantime.
He's now got a billet manual shift valve body, and by the end of the summer I'll have a stock casting based autoshift valve body
Both will employ the same theory of operation in regards to this topic.
Both will be the absolute maximum amount of 3rd gear holding power the 60e has ever seen since its inception
Both have taken alot of creativity and experimentation and difficult design to make it work...so I don't think we wanna just hand it out ***** nilly.
And besides...even if we did...it's not something that's just a "mod" that can be done at home unless I sell you parts to do it...or unless someone knocks off my parts and sells them to you

Would 500 hp be a more reasonable build for a 4l60e I have been doing the math on how fast it would be and 500 hp is probably closer to what I need for the speed that I am aiming to run in the quarter mile. Because it is only a 3300 pound truck.
Would this be worth sticking with the 4l60e.

With modest Sonnax upgrades and the Transgo HD2 shiftkit, 500HP (500 ft/lbs) is very reasonable goal. Assuming a careful rebuilt which addresses ALL possible leaks in the 3rd feed hydraulic circuit.
Since you are thinking of going well beyond 500HP, you might consider installing the 4L79 drum kit and billet input and output shafts during the rebuild. I have the older Sonnax Smart-Tech input housing, but the consensus seems to be that the 4L79 is better yet. I also recommend the Sonnax sunshell kit. Check this page on the Sonnax site:

Once the internals are strengthened you can implement valve body changes without having to remove the trans.
