I never said I would pay that for a gasket. It was stated that nobody made a "re-usable gasket".
I use the cork gaskets supplied by WIT. Clean and dry surfaces, torqued to 100 lbs. Inch. I just finished one I built 5 years ago that came back for a refresh & upgrade. I made a post on the input/output shafts. I had to pry the pan off of it!!

Thanks guys - got time to look at it again today. It's leaking just sitting there - about a drip every 5-7 seconds from the front PS corner of the pan. Tightened the pan bolts a bit more, no appreciable change. Start it up and the drips slow to about every 45 seconds. Which supports what someone posted above that the fluid is above the top of the pan when it's not running, but the level is below the top of the pan when running.

I did manage to reach up to the top where the vent comes out. Tube is attached, and is tied off up on the firewall and it's not wet up there, so I don't think it's coming from the vent.

Another thing I noticed when I started the truck and went under to look at it is that there seems to be some vapor coming out near where it's leaking. I've seen vapor coming out of the dip stick tube also. This is just after idling a few minutes, trans pan still cool. Is that normal? I don't see any evidence of cross-contamination between coolant and trans fluid.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I'm going to drop the pan again, check it for flatness, check the bolt holes in the pan as suggested by @bbond105, try a different gasket, take a really close look at the mating surface on the case, etc.

Thoughts on the Aluminum pans with the flat mating surface vs the stamped steel pan with the ridge? Unfortunately, I have to stay with the shallow pan for driveshaft clearance.

Thanks again - this shouldn't be so hard!

Front for the steady drip that's happening now. But the big leak was about halfway down the driver's side.

  1. front right may be coming from the dip stick tube, have you verified the seated all the way or the seal may be bad

Actually, I had that problem a few months ago - huge mess. Replaced the seal and re-seated the tube. Seems dry up top now.

Ok, this is embarrassing, but I figured out the current problem. Somehow a corner of the neoprene gasket got folded over in the front DS corner when I installed the pan. Not even sure how it happened. I was very careful, but not careful enough.

So a strike against the neoprene gasket in favor of something more rigid.

The pan doesn't seem quite flat either - maybe from torquing it down onto a doubled-up gasket. It's a really tiny amount, but I'm done with this and ordered a new pan.

it happens man, I went through quite a rabbit hole with my truck as well. I've probably been working on it for almost a year now on/off with problem after problem and it's finally coming together so it happens man. The main thing is your figuring it out and you live and learn.
