Default Th350 fluid temps?

What id the avg. Temp these thing should run at? After about a 18 mile drive it is about 220 deg. Is that to much i am use to the 4l60e lockup where it goes to about 175. I have a stock pan on the tranny(buying a new one as soon as i make sure it fits). I am useing a perma cool tranny cooler the bigest one they sale (21 x 10 1/2) mouted in front of the radiator. and i am useing dex3 wich dont know i fi should be useing it or type f. WIll it matter if i have all the black plastic in front of the radiator removed? I removed it all when i removed the front bumper and washer fluid and front hood bracket. Any help would be nice

That's a little on the high side. You want to see temps between 160 and 200 for the most part. A deeper pan may help a bit. Do you also have a fan on the trans cooler? Or are you just relying on the radiator fan?

I use a Dextron III fluid in mine. I've driven it all over the place in a day (over 300 miles) and it was fine all day. Even sat in a bitchin traffic jam for an hour and it was ok. Where are you getting your temperature reading from?

I'm using the same fluid and mine never goes over 180 or so. 220 is starting to push it. How do you have your cooler installed?

If it is a sliping trany fluid will be dark correct? and if it is a bad converter i could be getting hot and and still be clean fluid. Tranny is out of the car right now just trying to figure this out.
