How difficult to install a 'verter?
Now, I need some advice here. How hard is installing a torque converter when the only tranny work you've ever done is a servo? How hard is it, say... compared to a cam swap on my truck?
Thanks,
Derek
I thought about doing mine, but paid to get it done!
Worth the money for someone else to do it.
just my $.02
or at least thats me, I like to do stuff myself, and long as I make progress,
This may be over simplified, but does it pretty much go like this?
Disconnect battery and all tranny connections.
Remove starter
Remove driveshaft
Unbolt the bellhousing.
Unbolt the crossmember, move it, and catch the tranny as it falls on you (LOL)
Install the torque converter to the proper depth on the input shaft
Put it all back in
Was that oversimplified?

And it was a MAJOR PITA. But I feel great about it now. I think my cam install went better, but that my opinion.
2 things,
Don't take the converter off the jack
It is almost impossible to get it back on. Heh
and make sure that the new converter is seated all the way in the bell housing before you start bolting it up.
I couldn't figure out why the bell housing wouln't seat.

AND DO NOT use the bell housing bolts to pull the trans up to the engine.
(which I am glad I didn't
). Bring the trans to proper height start a bolt by hand, then wiggle the trans to get another bolt in... and so forth. Wait until you got all the bolts in before tightening. The link that Casper said is an awesome write up.
Read it twice before you start.
Good luck
Paul
