Default Mw 3400 2.0 str impressions

I just got my car back yesterday and the first thing I noticed was how loose this thing is. I really have to put my foot in the gas to go up hills or just drive around town. It constantly sits around 3000rpms until it finally locks up at about 45mph. I also think that my stock converter pulled harder as well. When I floor it, the rpm's jump up to around 5000 and just kinda sit there. I'm not very impressed with this thing. Will it feel different after I put some miles on it?

There are stories like this just starting to come out it seems. I do think you got a bod unit though. The loosness sounds like what I'd expect, but when you go W.O.T. it should jump to 3400 and then kick the ever living crap out of your tires. I don't know if it's a bum converter, or they messed up your tranny, but that is definately not right. Good luck to you. Keep us posted on your progress.

Thats not the conveter even if it was a 5000 stall it would still kick the crap out of your tireswhen it did hit. I suggest getting a hard look at 1) fluid level 2) put a 300# pressure gage with a hose on the transmission and check the pressure. If you can get a long enough hose to reach around to the inside of the car all the better. I drive the car with the gauge in my hand and the hose through the window. You need at least 180 psi at WOT. OOp's i just read you had this done in a shop. Check the fluid then take it back and demand they pressure test it. Is there any whining? GOOD LUCK

That does sound a bit loose. my vig 3200 needs about 2500 rpm to get moving quickly in traffic but by 3k rpm you'll be back in your seat. Its a really fine line on mine. Are you saying its jumps to 5000 rpm from a stop, or rolling on the highway?

I figured it would be a little loose with the 3.23's, but not that loose. I'm running a hypertech for shift firmness (set at 100%). Maybe I need to look into getting a shift kit or something. FWIW, I really haven't had a chance to get on it from a dead stop, just from a roll (highway speeds). The fluid level looks fine. There isn't any whining coming from the tranny or anything and it seems to be driving and shifting alright. It doesn't take 3000 rpms to get it moving through traffic, i just noticed that I need to put my foot in it more than I used to in order to get it going good.

Maybe I just need to take it to the track and see what it'll do.

with my ssf 3500 i dont have to give it much gas to get going, the rpm's are higher, but as far as looseness is concerned i dont thinkits bad at all, in fact i am very surprised at how street frindly it is, i also loveit on the freeways, alot more passing power. now if i punch it from a dead stop , i will just cook the tires, and all this is with the 2.73 gears.

Well, after I put some miles on it it seems to be doing better. I have noticed a lot more noise from the trans though. I tend to get a vibration throughout the car now. Is that normal? I finally did get a chance to punch it from a stop...all I can say is I need some drag radials now. I tried punching it from idle and i roasted the tires. I then tried to foot brake it a bit and ease into it, again it roasted the tires. After that I tached it up to about 1000rpms and eased into it. This time it hooked somewhat and pinned me in the seat. I was quite impressed with that.

I have the same converter. I've had it for almost a year now. It's a lot more noticeable on the looseness of the converter. I like it though. When driving normally it usually hovers right about 2000rpms. That's just normal accelleration. If i get into just a bit more it's up to 3000rpms. If i floor it then it's at 4000rpms and street tires are useless. Taking the car from a stop with a converter is where it helps the most. Street tires is a waste as you have you ease into the gas so much that its hard to get a good launch.

It's definately gotten a lot better with some miles. I stomped on it yesterday and it just spun the tires and pinned me in the seat. I need to get some drag radials now. I can't wait to see some track times. Hopefully I'm not going to run slower on the street tires. I know I won't see the full benefits until I run on a stickier tire.

That is pretty loose. A 3400 stall should pull pretty hard when at 3000 rpm.

If the 5000 rpm flash is occuring from going to WOT when rolling, then that is exactly what you want. The tach should hang at 5000 for a second or two and then start heading up. Yout SOTP should feel like a bat out of hell even though the tach is steady around 5,000 rpm

If the track prep is good, you can run good times on street tires. I have actually pulled my best 60ft time on street tires. I had to ease it out, but they had just put vht down... But i went .2's slower cause I couldn't leave hard.....
