Default SHift Kit?

I tried searching around, but didn't find the exact answer i was looking for. If i get a Shift Kit, can i adjust it so if I am driving my car around town, it shifts normally, but if I go to the tracks I can change it and make it firmer? My g/f has a back problem and i can't have the car jerking around in shifts. ANy help will be great, thanks a lot!

Oh and what kind of gains are normally seen with the Kits?

well, the transgo shift kit you just install it and there's no adjusting anything unless you want to take it back apart and change parts.

The shift kit did help with a lot of the problems that I was having with my shifts, so I did see a slight gain at the track.

Might seem odd but the best advice is to get a new converter, vig3200 for ex. the trans will shift hard at wot but you'll barely feel it, if at all while driving on the street, the trans hits the shift but the converter will absorb the jolt.
