Default 4L60E Performance rebuild worth it?

i have a lump of many coming soon (about 2 grand), and i was going to get my 4L60E rebuilt, because at the moment it is TOAST .......I really am starting to wonder if it will be worth all that money that i wont be able to come up with again anytime soon...lol......ive heard a lot of ripping on the 4l60e, so now im thinking twice.....my plans are to make the car a mid-high 12 second car...do you think a perf. rebuilt 4l60e will be worth the money, and will it hold out??

If you have to tear into it, you might as well buy good parts. You'll only be adding a few hundred dollars at that point, depending upon on how extreme you go.

If you goal is mid 12's I don't think you'd need to go all out on a performance rebuild. I'm running mid 12's on a bone stock transmission with a vig3200. 35k miles and crossing my fingers.

I made several 11 second N/A and some 10 second bottle passes on a stock tranny. However the next weakest link will brake so build the tranny to be strong.

Get one from the pros, don't waste money and time with anyone else.
Rossler or FLP (that's the way I went, stage 4, being installed as I type)

BTW, my stock tranny was still good, over 50 passes N/A and Nitrous, but I wanted quicker better shifts, durability and I'm deleting my TM.

4L60E's are a grab bag it seems. Some say their transmission took a dump after racing it a few times. I need to count my slips some day but i'd bet I have near 200 passes on the car not counting the abuse it takes on the street.

If rebuilt properly by someone who will back it up with a warranty KNOWING you will drag it at the track, you cant go wrong. We have a 10.8s 4L60E under a 427 stroker that ran consistent 10s all day. They arent a bad unit, just that the General has hosed them down to be girl pansies.

I say if you just rebuild it to run 12's you will be ok as long as the job is done right. Mine just recently gave out after 97k miles and tons & tons of races both on the street & track. I ran it both on NOS & motor until it finally gave out. BUT........ I stuck another stock 4l60e in there with supposably 16k miles on it had it a few weeks did 2 track passes and it gave out on me a few days ago. So now I have no 3rd or 4th gear. So I guess some come out good & some dont...

There are quite a few people running them around DFW. Not a whole lot of those people post here. Question better asked here. http://www.ls2.com/forums/forumdispl...?s=&forumid=25

Also you can PM me and I can fill you in a little better about the internals and pricing. But your best to call there and talk to Dave. He is an awesome guy, and will answer any and all your questions.
