Default Tranny Heat.

Ok take the car out for a drive it is 2 in the morning so it is about 60 degrees. I drive about 25 miles dont know how fast i am going but i am taching 3 grand the hole way. By the time i get home i am 205-210 trans temp.

Ok here is set up I have permacool oil cooler as a tranny cooler (part number PRM 2318 wich it is 10 1/2x 21x 1 1/2. There is no fan mounted on it. I have both cooling fans on the car running full blast. I have not ac condensor front bumper or any of the black plastic mounted behind the bumper. I have hard steal lines running from the tranny to about my BMR K member and then rubber line the rest of the way.

Ok so what to do? Should i get a http://www.derale.com/fanmountedoilcoolers.shtml coole? Will a fan mounted on the front running all the time help any? Transmission has just been throught about 2 weeks ago and the same with the converter. Becuse the tranny was getting hot.

I have a 01Z28 with a B&M 24K cooler, and a B&M aluminum 3Qt. deeper pan. I read my temperatures through a Cyburdine Digital gauge. I live in a warm climate also (Southern California) these are my temperatures

Hot freeway driving - 145F to 159F
Hot city driving - 175F to 187F

The stock tranny temperature of the 4l60E is 180F.

I would guess you do not have enough cooler.

Mine is setup that the fluid goes out of the tranny into the radiator, out of the radiator into the cooler, out of the cooler into the transmission. My temp sensor is installed in the pressure port right above the linkage cables.

are those temps with a 4L60e? My car with the same cooling set up i have now was at about the same temps as you have there with my 4400 stall. I have the stefs pan and i have the temp gauge mounted in one of the pressure ports behind the dipstick tube.

Yes those temps are with a 4l60e transmission, with a transgo shift kit.

My 4l60e with stall and 24K super cooler runs cooler than it did stock.

stock temps ranged between 180-195
stall converter and cooler temps are 155-180

I realize you have a th350. I would try a differant cooler, B&M has a 28K cooler that should keep it cool enough, its a super duty race cooler but i would give it a try.

I am just trying to decide if something is wrong or not i just got tranny and converter redone so i have no idea what it could be. I would thank my cooler should be fine the only thing is i dont not have it ran through my radiator becuse my car use to be a 6 speed car. Mabe i should just get 3 of them and stack them and keep adding them tell i get it to cool.

my '85 regal had a th350 3,500 huges converter. I never had a gauge on it but i know it was running hot, I burned up 3 trannys (young & dumb & just wouldnt learn). i only had it going through a trans cooler as my aftermarket radiator didnt have a cooler hook up either. I would try the multiple cooler idea.

is your fluid level over full by any chance? i've heard to much fluid is just as bad as not enough, and will cause it to over heat.

yeah that big ole radiator can sure warm up (GOOD!) and cool down (GOOD) and overheat(bad) your shizzle.

If i just had my 24K i'd have like trans cooler (summitracing.com) as big as the radiator anyways.

dunno bout you but im not always the best driver in the cold and i'm guessing some nasty things happen when you "jump n gun" her at cold.

i think the ls1 ecm locks out 4th gear until it reaches a temp i swear or it doesn't lockup the verter. maybe im on crack but i've felt this on a few different 4-5 speed auto's.

synthetics might not break down as fast if you can afford them and not mix them?

I know what your talking about, my trans will lock up about 40mph when hot. but when its cold it wont shift/lock up untill a much high speed almost 60.
