TH400 w/Gearvendors Overdrive..question...
I may go with a built Ford 9" rear end too.
I just don't want any headaches anymore.

There's many of them riding around and working perfectly with our PCM's. I was just hoping someone can tell me the best place to go. I just e-mailed Gearvendors so I'll have some pricing and other info soon.

Shimming the union adapter properly is critical to its survival. Set up correctly it will outlast your TH400.
"gator's 99TA" just thought he would offer some of his great (and typical) technical advice in another thread. He doesn't understand that some people want a totally badass set-up for the street and I'll spend the money to do it. The parts are there and people do it all the time. I guess he'd just rather tell me and others to keep our high HP cars at the track and never drive them on the street.
So I want OD because my car is a daily driver. I never said it wasn't.
I ask a fuggin question about a tranny and another thread goes to ****

I know its nowhere near the strength of a TH400, right? I'm not really concerned with the extra weight and loss of HP, considering how much I'll have. My goal is to have a setup that will last.

BTW I saw you posted earlier in this thread that you may go 9 inch. I would keep the 12 bolt, I believe the weak link you have in the 12 bolt is going to be your posi which will be the same weak link in your 9 inch unless you locker or spool it.

Sorry, you got very bad info on this. The 4L80-E has the exact same running gear from 1-3 as a TH400.
If you have any questions on the function or capabilities of a Gear Vendors or a 4L80-E, just ask me. I have both.

hey man, great Q's. i myself did my own homework and this is what i decided to go with.........
1) Neal Chance converter set up loose on the t-brake, but locks up early and is tight on the street.
2) Coan TH400 with brake and manual v-body.
3) US Gear V2OD overdrive unit with a 70% O.D. gear---$1435 vs $2400+ for G.V. unit
4) Strange C/M drive shaft
5) Moser 9"/Detroit Locker/3.70 gears/aluminum center/35 spline/3" studs
i myself thought this was more what i was looking for, and the price of the G.V. could not compete. do yourself a favor and call this guy Jim @ US Gear-800)874-3271.
very nice to deal with and hooked me up very well, marked down $200, (normally $1635). if you've got the cash, hold on to it til you check them out. my car is going in on 9/25, so if it's going to be a few weeks, i can give you my first impressions.
horsepower loss is less than 1% when not in direct mode, not in o.d., so with 800hp, you should be looking at an 8 hp loss max.....big deal..small price to pay to cruise comfortably on the highway. for example, my 3.70 gear with the 70% o.d. = 2.59 final gear ratio!!!!! nice. and by the time you remove the th400 tail shaft, and add the V2OD, i'm only gaining maybe 10 lbs., i'll have to weigh it. and it's rated at handling 1000 ft. lb. of torque, but is not hp limited from what i understand. the G.V. unit however, i did not get a torque rating, but a claimed 2000+ hp capability. for me, i will look no further than about a 1000 hp max, due to it being a convertible, and driven 5000 miles a yr roughly.
anyway, pm me with any questions you may have, and let me know what you decide to do.
thanks, and go for the 9"/locker combo, & stay away from the spool IMO.

oh yea...my old chevy mags use to offer a G.V./TH400 setup rated at 1000hp.
you can call them and ask if they still offer it if you do go with them. otherwise, expect to pay aroung $1700-trans/$1435-V2OD...have fun.
