Default How long will it hold?

i'm looking into buying a heads/cam '98 Trans Am, that puts down 400rwhp.

my only concern is that it is a A4 w/ a 3200 stall. And i have yet to hear if the tranny is built at all. How long would you say a stock 4L60E could put up with 400 HP?
car has a 30k miles

could hold up awhile if the car isn't beat upon constantly and the tuning is good.

As long as your tuner doesnt take out Torque management and you take it easy on it. It should last you.

How much of a difference does removing torque management really make? I asked a tuner about this before and he said not much, how hard you drive it is what makes a difference to your transmissions life. Is this accurate?

TM makes a pretty big difference if you ask me (assuming you dont have it flat on the floor every where you go). It actually slows my car down quite a bit between shifts and its even turned down some.

I think it could last a good amount of time. I have beat the **** out of my car for the past two years putting 15-20lbs of nitrous through the car a week, and the tranny is holding up fine. I eliminated the torque management and put in a Trans-Go shift kit. Did you add a transmission cooler when you installed the converter?

You are one lucky SOB Thats like the worst combo, nitrous, no TM, shift kit, and stomping it all the time.

I didn't even mention that my converter doesn't have a steel stator power adder upgrade but, that's a whole other story. I think the shift kit actually helped save the 3-4 clutch pack, I've been spraying through my shifts for awhile now and it's still a solid shift. I have a TH400 in the works for this winter, won't have to worry about the tranny next year.

The main thing a shift kit does is raise your line pressure. Not good for the stock tranny if your trying to save it. Im working on a TH400 with GV OD right now.

Agreed but if your car is a DD like mine, you may want to consider keeping it until you got the $$$ to buy a new trans.

Does anyone know how much "partial" or turned down TM really slow down the car? I'm talking et or mph? Anyone ever do some runs for comparison? I'm just curious because if it is negligible say only a tenth it might be worth it to get another year or so out of the tranny. That way I'll have more than enough saved up for the 4L80e swap I plan on doing once the stocker dies .

I havent seen any, but I can tell you from your sig that once you throw that supercharger on there you can expect to be buying a new DS, rear end, and probably a new tranny too.
