Default trans electrical question

On a 4l80e transmission, if the gear selection switch is not hooked up will the trans shift right? When pulling out the trans i pulled all the wiring out of the conectors to the switch.

Anyone, does this just act as a neutral saftey switch and show what gear you are in on the cluster? Not having it hooked up, will this make the tranny shift weird?

You mean the switch on the manual selector shaft? Thats a neutral safety/reverse light switch.
I put a '98 trans in a '92 truck and removed the switch because the '92's switch is somewhere else.
Theres a switch inside the trans on the valve body that is activated by fluid pressure, it tells the VCM what gear the trans is in.
So you can take the switch off, it won't run any different.
