Default Dipstick tube

I am putting my tranny back in and i am having a little trouble getting my dipstich tube back in. Any tricks or suggestions. It is hanging down past the hole and i am unable to push it up far enough to get it back in.

No just me pushing up I just might have to wait and get some help. I have done everything by myself today, took tranny out, replaced filter, installed TCI 3800 put tranny back in, it hasn't been the easiest thing to do but until this stupid tube I haven't come across anything really hard except one of the TC bolts did not want to go through the flywheel, but nothing a drill bit couldn't fix, but this seems to be a little tougher. THanks

two people makes it alot easer. But i would just pull and twist from the top and then try to slide it in form the bottom.

how'd the tranny filter go? I'll be doing that with my converter install too. I ordered a oil filter and gasket kit (i believe) from GM parts direct. Did you have any problems with the seal around the filter?

The filter was a piece of cake. It is a very messy job unless you have a drain plug in your trans pan, i didn't so i had to drop the pan with fluid in it. I just loosened the back bolts and slowly loosened the front ones and the fluid would get lower in the pan. The rubber ring around the filter from my old one stuck into the trans and is a pain the get out, I spent more time digging that piece of rubber with metal around it out than the whole filter service. I reccomend getting some carb or brake cleaner to clean the bottom of the pan out, mine was filthy I used a whole can getting it clean. The trans pan bolts only require like 10 or 12 lbs of tq to tighten, I didn't use a tq wrench but i didn't tighten them very much. Also during this converter swap i ran into another small problem. THe factory bolts are like 3/8 and the new converter bolts are i think 7/16 one step bigger. Two of them went in fine but one would not go through the flywheel, I used a 90 degree drill and a 7/16 bit and drilled the flywheel out,

I took a pick, straight like an ice pick and wedged it between the metal and rubber seal, pryed like hell until i mangled it up enough it would slide out.

Did You already bolt down the dipstick tube? That could be preventing it from moving enough. I know it could be a stupid little thing but just checking

Well on my 60e theres a brace near the engine, that was the first thing I took off. my whole dip stick is laying on the floor, my first trans job and its been a hump, from frozen bolts to many differnt size bolts, (gmc yukon) but ready to install it, had to take out, pipes, transfer case, rear drive shaft, bell housing cover, skid plates, front and mid, front drive shaft, cross memeber and then found major leaks in oil pan, oil pump so did that while under there. And I have been working alone, lol
