I have an Art Carr 4L60E that third gear just goes out completely and comes back. It happened one night driving down the road and my car starts revving when it shifted to third. I was not driving it hard at all. I was upset, but as soon as I stopped and started going again, third gear was there and not slipping at all. It did it again last week, but when I stopped and started again no third gear. I had to drive home in second. I checked the trans fluid and it was a nice red. It was not black like when third went out in the last trans. Well this morning I went for a test drive and third was holding strong.


What could my problem be? I have no idea what is happening and what has to be done.

 

Sounds like a solenoid to me
