should i go to a powerglide?
I can tell you that as a street transmission, the
'glide in my '68 El Camino licks ***** compared to
the overdrive 4-speed in my Camaro. Drag strip
is another matter, the 'glide is pretty efficient
and can be made pretty stout, for cheap.
I would never have one again in any street car of
mine. I'd go with a 4L80E and a BFH before any of
the other options, for the Camaro. Anything without
overdrive, no way.

how do you use this car? i kept blowing transmissions in my formula(mid 10's on nos) and i finally had Century Transmissions in Houston build me a 4L65E that is good for 750hp. 6,000 mile/ 6 month warranty. i have had no problems at all and i beat the hell out of my car. Rossler Transmissions also make a hell of a transmission for these cars. I would get a 4L80 instead of a p/g!

A powerglide? You mean Slush Box.
Thats what they called them in the 60's, because they were so sloppy that you couldnt get any performance out of them - At least a stock powerglide.
However, if you are thinking powerglide...you should spend the coin and get one that is built up. They work great for drag racing, but I wouldnt put one on a street vehicle, just not a good choice. Go 700R4 with a TC controller, if your not running an ECM.
At least you'll get decent driveablility out of it, and you can still take it to the strip for fun.

our cars are generally to heavy for a powerglide. Your best bet is a TH400. If you want to retain od and a lockup i'd suggest the 4L80E as mentioned, but there is not much info on the swap.
