pro rachet good idea for 4l60e
i like the look and feel of them mainly.. my trans is rebuilt with red eagle clutches, stronger planetary's and all updated newer parts we could get for it... and it has a transgo shift kit in it. i sometimes will be cruising at 30 mph and have a stang roll up and wanna go.. ofcourse i have to downshift manually, the problem is i immediately have to throw it back up into second becuase it seems the stock shifter takes a full second to catch, before the car even trys to shift lol. also once i get my cam in.. could i shift manually at teh track with a shift light this way and pick up anytime? sometimes ive noticed on nitrous the car gets a lil confused.. the window switch takes the spray away before the shift, and the rpms climb will slow down a lil bit ya know.. seems when this happens the car trys to shift early or late.. not the trans, its always done this.. if anything its the pcm i guess.. is this pointless or is this actually worth the few hundred dollars? another thing, the stock shifter seems weak, ever since the day i got it, it moves to easy b/t 1, 2, 3, and d/r. not really my taste.

I know I might get flamed, but I don't think it's worth the money do this. Your trans is still electronically controlled, correct? If so, don't bother shifting it at the track. Just let the ECU control the shift points, it will be MUCH more consistent that way.

Your shifter has no connection to the trans...it connects to the computer...so unless you're switching transmissions too, switching shifters won't gain you anything I don't think. The people I know of running ratchet shifters are running a tranny with a manual valve body (TH400, modified 4l80, etc) where the computer doesn't control the shifts anymore and they have to shift.

No reason you can't use a Pro Rachet w/a GM 4 speed auto. B&M part # 80842 Universal 3 & 4 speed model.

There's a "little" bad info going on here in this thread. Yes you can Manual shift a 4l60e "if" the manual shift table in the ecm has the correct info!
It needs set up like this:
upshift table
1-2 255mph
2-3 255mph
3-4 0mph
downshift tables
2-1 0 mph
3-2 0 mph
4-3 255 mph
And yes I love my prorachet shifter

HotrodHawk, just curious do you manually shift your car at the track? How well does it work compared to letting the computer control it? Nice article on your car and a very clean install of the shifter.

the reason im wondering is i will be installing a cam with the rev limiter set at 6900... i will shift on motor about 66-6700 right.. well i still need to cut the 150 shot out at 6000 on my stock bottom end.. so when im running on motor id like to shift at 6600, but when im spraying, id like to shift right after the spray goes out so im not wasing my 150rwhp for 600rpms....... im not going to run out of gear... so is there any reason to waste my time for that 600rpms? i dont have hp tuners and dont feel like laying down or swapping back and forth each time, so thats why i was thinking manually shift woudl be a solution.

Yes I manualy shift it and it's action is right now. With the shift table for "manual shifts" set up as I show you it will go into the gear selected the moment you select it.
In first your in first, in second your in second, in third or fourth you have normal automatic shifts.
