Default Pyle Bros. (Houston) gear install

I have a gear reset/install scheduled at Pyle Bros in Baytown. I want to get some opinions on the price as well as their opinions on whether I indeed need new gears or just a reset.

My current setup is a 99 Camaro, M6 w/ 4:10's. It only has bolt-ons w/o headers and pulley. Best 60' is 1.80 and ET of 12.55 @ 111

Price: 275 plus $50 in parts(lube, additive, crush sleeve etc) I tend to think this is a fair price since they are a reputable shop that specializes in rearend setups. This is all they do.

Gears: They said if I need gears they will range from $169 to 299. 299 is OEM gears. Anyone have any experience with the 169 gears? They also have some priced between those two. They mentioned I will probably need gears since my whine fairly bad. They said theses cars make enough power to actually bend the teeth on the ring.

Other questions:

Has anyone had any experience with the straightcut gears? I'd think they are stronger than an OEM gear, but I wasn't sure how much they'd whine.

Not surprised, but they mentioned these 7.5 10 bolts are the weakest GM has ever put into a car.

That's about going rate. $250 would sound better. Absolutely do NOT let them put Motive gears in there. Even if they say they are GM/Motive. Motive gears suck I know I made the mistake of getting them. GM/Superior gears are good. I have installed some with good luck. Also have installed Precision brand gears with good results also. They are probably right about needing gears unless there is something that is just not right. Like a bearing. But if the gears have been run with a whine they will not be able to "fix" them.

Well, I had GM Motive 4.10s and never had a lick of trouble from them. Shattered a few axles, but never had any trouble from the gears. The guy I sold them to hasnt had any trouble either.

I know several people that have had gear installs and complete rearends set up by them with no trouble at all. A friend of mine went 10.60's this weekend on a Pyle Brothers 12bolt. If I ever do a gear change they will be the ones doing it.

I still have my GM Motive gears and haven't had any trouble with them. Had them since February and they have about 15-20 4.5K launches on them.

I have don't laugh 2.73 gears and I called them to get 3.42 gears. For everything it will cost $700 out the door. They are the best around here.
