Default A4 / TP4400 problems....

I have a 2000 Z28 A4, with a TP4400 convertor. My problem is this: (Bear with me its kind of hard to describe) When in "D" and accelerating, it feels as though the trans is slipping, or maybe the convertor is locking/unlocking rapidly. It makes a "straining" noise, as well. Can you feel it if your bands/clutches in the transmission are slipping? Or am I having lockup problems? Atap shows no codes, nor does it seem to do it while accelerating through the gears (Like a 1/4 mile run), but more when you're cruising and the trans is under load, like instead of kicking down it just slips and pulls through it .?.?.?. Any ideas? Does any of this make any sense? The car only has 7800 miles on it, would hope its not the trans, yet. <img src="images/icons/shocked.gif" border="0">

My TP4600 did it too. It's the lockup clutch slipping. It isn't hurting anything and is common. More line pressure might cure it but I wouldn't use electronic means to supply it. Mike was supposed to be experimenting with different clutches. How old is your converter?

BTW, changing the fluid or using F-type fluid will not help the problem.

My converter is about 4-5 months old. If I keep the 4L60E, I am going to send the converter back for Mike to upgrade it to a TPE4000 for NOS use, will this be corrected then? Or is it my transmission making the noise? I feel better knowing that it is "normal", but its still disheartening hearing and feeling it everytime I accelerate from a roll. Thanks, Shawn

I got that problem too on the freeway at certain throttle loads. If I get out of the throttle for a split second and then get back in, it seems to go away. You might also see what happens if you put your stock MAF on; it may change the preceived load and change the line pressure.

Likewise, it took several months for the problem to start.
