Default Re: TH350 Torque Converter Question?

I don't know about all of the components in Yank's conversion kit, but...

The stock flexplate already has 2 bolt patterns on it. One for the stock 4l60E converter, and one that just happens to line up perfectly with a TH350 converter. The hub depth is different, but it seems to be close enough on my car to not matter. The hub does go into the back of the crank, but barely. Turbo Action sells a hub adapter/spacer for about $20 that goes on the front of the converter. I still have mine, but don't use it.

BTW, if you haven't guessed by now, I have a TH350 and a JW converter in my car... In fact, I believe I had the first TH350 trannied LS1 street car around back when I did my conversion two years ago.

Thanks George! So that means I can have my choice of any TH350/400 torque converter I want if I go that route. It looked like everyone was buying the conversion kit, I thought it was because of some kind of "special" one-off converter housing or something.

Default TH350 Torque Converter Question?

I have been building TH350's for a while now, I know Yank sells a conversion kit to go to a TH350. My question is, What is changed on the TH350 Torque converter to work on a LS1 Flexplate? I'm assuming it has something to do with the converter bolts and possibly the depth of the center hub? What would stop me from using a $300 3500 Hughes stall converter is the main question? TIA

We'll see how this is taken care of.......

OUCH! You're NOT alone. My Yank TH350 was the biggest POS. The shifts weren't worth crap, and they were inaccurate as hell. I also had a hole in the front of my trans that was dumping fluid ALL over the place! It took us over a week just to get the trans to work so I could drive the car. I have a friend that lives in the DFW area, too, and he went through total hell with his TH350 conversion on his '98 Z28 M6 car. He had to fight with Yank for quite a while before getting some money back. He had to have a rebuild on the trans in less than 500 miles, and the guy at the trans shop told him that he's seen stock TH350's with better parts in them!
Yank converters seem to be working well now, but the trannies are a WHOLE different story. I think they should leave the trans building up to the guys that know what they're doing.
