Default 3.73's and a PI 4500 or 4.10's and a PI #7?

Right now I have the 4.10's and the PI 4500, but I am going to make a change. I am just curious as to which setup would work best. My car weighs about 3700lbs with me in it. I cross the line about 6800-6900rpms (locked up)which is ok by me. Running 26 x 16 ET streets.

Give me some feedback.

Timmay,
I'd definitely take the 3.73/TP4500 route. The mid-range and top-end power that the TP4500 has over the Vig #7 is pretty significant. I'm sure you've seen the differences at www.converter.cc in their dyno section. I'm getting ready to swap out to a TP that should stall right around 4,200 in my car. I should see a solid 1-2 MPH increase over my Vig 3200, so you can imagine how much more MPH would be lost if you had the #7. Sure, you can lock it up, but this will only be beneficial in 3rd gear. You'll still have an inefficient 1st and 2nd gear. Besides, I think you're asking for trouble w/ 4.10's and the #7 unless you're looking to upgrade to 28" ET Drags. The 3.73/TP4500 combo should net you some high 1.5/low 1.6 60' times with your raceweight.

Trevor, thing is, I have the Vig now and an upgrade costs me $0.00. The convertor I have now, #1 pump, is the 2nd loosest converor that they make. The #7 will actually be tighter for me. I'm thinking the same combo though, 3.73/#7.

Why do you want to change from 4.10s?

Tim,

I think the 4.10s with the lucky 7 pump converter would ROCK!. There's no need to go any looser on the converter with that much gear. In my opinion, you would go the quickest and mph the highest with the combination of #7, 4.10s and lockup switch in high gear...and for $0, it sounds like a no brainer.

If you feel like swapping gears to 3.73s, you can without too much of an ET penalty (but lose a mph or two), but I'd STILL do that with the more efficient #7 pump Vig.

I had the 3.73/#7 combo in my T/A when I sold it, and I did like it. I tried to get some new times with the updated heads, etc., but the damn rearend broke at the track. If it makes a difference, I pulled a 1.58 60' time with only the right rear tire getting power and a 3,645# raceweight. Would you believe that on that pass I matched my ET identically with an 11.38 but with a 118.5 MPH trap speed? This was in much worse weather than my previous 11.38 @ HRP, so it was definitely making more power.
Since you can get the free stall change and you already have 4.10's, just try it out with a #7. If you don't like it at that point, then you can do the gear swap. The least expensive route just might end up being your best

So it seems that Patrick is the only one that suggests that I stay with the 4.10's, but tighten the convertor.
I was kinda leaning that route. I think that if I drop the gears, I would drop my rpms too much with the tighter convertor. My engine produces max power/tq at the upper rpms, 5800-6200 rpm, so I don't need to get too low.

Yeah, the 3600 or 4000 vig and 3.73's would be a great combo!

Tim,

You know how simple this stuff is...if you're trying to extract every bit of power out of your combination, you want to have all your rpm used up by the end of the 1/4. With that super high red-line on your motor, you could probably even go to 4.30 gears (with the lock up switch). But since you are still running the shorter 26 inch tires, 4.10s will probably be perfect. I'm not saying that 4.10s are perfect for everybody, I'm just saying that they'll be perfect for you Tim.

Change to the lucky #7, then HOLD ON!!
