I am getting ready to get a stage 4 tranny from FLP and I want to go ahead and get a higher stall converter to go with it. I have been doing a lot of research about torque converters and it seems like as soon as I find what I want, I find that it has been discontinued.
I was originally dead set on a SY3500. My car is a full bolt-on car (except for an LS6 intake and a ported TB) that is primarily street driven. I really liked the efficiency and the low str rating (I'm still on the stock 10 w/ 3.73's. I have a feeling that I will have serious traction issues with a higher str. If I use some street slicks, then I'm afraid I will risk tearing the rearend out). I ended up reading that it was dicontinued.
My next choice was the SS3800. I had heard a lot of good things about this converter. It was a higher stall, but I liked the fact that it was getting good all-around reviews. I then find that this one is dicontinued.
Now I am kinda lost. I am not dead-set on a Yank, but it is prefered. I would also go with a TCI or a Vigilante. I would however like to stay away from Midwest.
Can anyone give me some insight, advice, or any good recommendations?

Is there any comparable converter made by TCI or Vigilante just in case I can't get one? Joined: Nov 2003

Off the shelf TCI's all have higher STR's - great for around town feel but brutal on your tires with 3.73's. I'm not sure with Vig - I think there is more flexiblity with STR but I've never heard of anything low like the SY3500. There is a new company Fuddle Converters that is building custom converters - they will do a 3200/1.8 or a 3500/2.0. But they're new to the market ... caveat emptor.
