Default Stroker and 2600 Vig converter....

Ok, I just installed one yesterday and before you get that, what! (my Lt1 stroker, just beats the flash stall out of converters eg. YTP 4000 stalled at way over 5000 with an extension that went to 6000, my shift point....whoops, 11 percent loss too). Anyhow, I bought my first "Vig" converter (mostly because I couldn't get a hold of Mike at Yank for weeks) gave them the spects of tq at rear (what that equates to at flywheel), weight and gear......And...This will stall to 3000 in your car...."Cool that's what I want" (actually I want 3200-3400 but, I know better).

Well, it flashes to 3400-3500 in 3rd under load, before it down shifts. I have found that this is pretty close (just under what) it flashes in first at the drags, on ET Streets...(I expect to see, 3600-3700 stall). The extension going in to 3rd is 4900.....

So, now that it looks like I have a 2600 ..Oh, I mean 3200 Vig...Does anyone know the STR of this 2600 rpm PI converter? I asked when buying, and was told it was 2.5 <img src="images/icons/smile.gif" border="0"> After the stall being way off, who would you believe!

This is just one of the on going stall adventures of my car...I had also had a Yank 2800 Torque Thruster 3.0 in there, that flash stalled 4200 on the dyno....More at the strip (8 percent loss for this one) Extension in to 3rd, was 5300 rpm...

The STR of the Vig 2600 converter should be around 1.90-1.95. This is based on the dyno testing on General Motors transmission dyno of the Vig 2800/3200/3600 converters. They had STRs of 1.98/2.17/2.37 respectively so that would lead me to believe the STR of the converter you have to be in the range I stated above.

Is this convertor the kind of convertor that you would recommend for a daily driver LT1 like mine which might never use drag radials, but just sticky Z rated tires? (such as Yokohama AVS intermediates or RE730s) It's a lot cheaper than the higher stall convertors, and I know from reading the LT1 section of CamaroZ28.com that a lot of 94-95 owners have problems with the trans not shifting right with a stall higher than 3200. OBDI doesn't seem to work well with high stall, and the fix is either to switch to OBDII or to get the Ed Wright programming, otherwise it just doesn't shift at WOT.

I'm "Jimbob65" on CZ28....
Mine was the first that went OBDII...and no you can't guarantee the fix from Ed Wright, right now. He thought he had it totaly fixed, but some cars aren't responding. With out the worry of drag radials or ET Streets/Slicks at a drag strip, you will never have a problem with the shifting (lack of traction will be your problem). That's no matter what stall you choose. Just go with something like a PI2800 or re-stalled Yank ST3500 to 3000-3200. Any more, will probably kill those street tires..I have heard good things about the Super Yank 3500 (on this BB, but have no first hand experiance with it), it stalls around the 3500 rating though, and might be too much for your daily driver!

Choose wisely Grass Hopper....
