has anyone bought a converter from fuddleracing.com ?

if so, post your experience, impressions.
and how long you've had it without breaking

Mine should be pretty close to what yours is.

I got a 3400 1.8 STR......
I wanted a little lower STR because of my tire limitations on the GTO, and I don't plan on rolling on Drag Radials all the time. Plus I have heard the higher STR's are alot less efficient at higher rpms. My main concerns are TCC operation and durability, kinda what kept me away from the TCI converters, since I have read about a few problems on here.

fuddle looks great. their Customer service appears very detail oriented, and their TC explanations (which till recently I was ignorant of ) are VERY good. When I get one I am definetely gonna get it through them, provided they don't get poor feedbackof course. so let us know how their quality ranks among others!

having a problem with the converter is fine. **** happens. but what matters is - what is the manufacturer going to DO about it. will they be a hassle? will they be a bunch of ***** who screw you over and cause nothing but headache? or will they be helpful, and correct the problem?

 

Heres a quote from them on another forum.
I don't know exactly what that means but it sounds like they do not have a shop with employees who work for them building converters.
They go with who ever can build xxx converters to their specs this month.
Sounds like you might buy a converter this month and it'll be built in a different facility by different people, on different equipment than your buddys converter who buys his next month.
Don't know if it matters.

There is a converter shop near me that does mostly stock rebuilds, but they can also order parts to build a high stall converter. And I would bet if fuddle was in need this shop would be qualified to build for them.

But I guess it wouldn't matter if it was actually built to the right specs.
But these contract builders might or might not care about top quality.
They are contracted to be paid for building a certain amount of converters. The quicker they get them done the sooner they get paid. And what the hell, their names not going on the converter.


IMO budget is the only reason to go with this company. If I'm going to buy a converter it's going to be from a company who has their own employees building ONLY their converters.

Sorry my opinion is not all happy and smiley.

 

Mine just showed up. John indicated it would be
here Friday, got here (UT to FL) almost on time.
Blue paint on converter, 10" with three fat lugs.
Box has the manufacturer's info printed on it.
"Torque Converter Company", SLC Utah. They
seem to not have a net.presence but show up in
a lot of transmission and racing parts indexes.
Appears they haven't been subject of much
Internet or media discussion, a Google turns up
nothing besides the yellow page / industrial listings.

I got a build sheet indicating "Stall:3500 STR:1.8
and somebody's note: efficiency/street 3490, 1.78.

 

I asked him the question on the other forum as to what contracting out to all of their builders means.
He said: This would make me feel better knowing exactly who the work was contracted out to, sounds like a trustworthy company.

 

Jimmy, I am curious if you see any balance weights anywhere on the converter?

I completely agree that some companies make it too hard to get problems fixed. Check out our warranty -- very unrestrictive. If there's a problem, we fix it fast.

The weights are in the welds. We use three balancing machines and won't let a sloppy converter out.

 

I ordered a 4000 stall and it should get here by the 28 of March, I haven't heard anything bad, but I know that the customer service is AWESOME, I practically emailed John about 15 times asking him Q's, he answered back fast and even answered Q's I forgot to ask, he is a great guy, and I can't wait til I get mine.

 

hey fuddle what do you think about yanks claims on their website.. i mean hell they basically say everybody copies them and everyone but them and pi do not have the abilty to build a good verter and value priced verters like yours wont stand up to theirs... im not tring to sling mudd but their making some pritty steep claims

 

So...you wanna sell that burnt up old TCI? I got a converter shop nearby that can cut it open, change the clutch, etc.

 

I have a desire to peacefully co-exist here and on other sites with Yank, and other performance converter shops. I don't want to start any arguments with Yank. I do feel that I need to address a couple things.

No, our design is not based on the Yank design. Yank has a great design; so do we.

While Yank and P.I. both build great converters, they are not the only ones who can build a quality product. Our converters are built to demanding specifications and are built to handle a lot of power. Just look at our abnormally open warranty and our unprecedented upgrade offers. We have to offer a top quality product to stand behind those like we do.

Yes, but they are VHS. Sorry. I hope to have some good ones up as soon as the local track opens next month.
